This came up in Redemption Chat: I made this mix about... three years ago I think as a joke for Valentine's Day, and thought it would be fun to upload here :D

You know how sometimes you listen to a song and are like "oh hey, this is a really sweet song!" and then the more you listen to it, the more you realize "um, holy crap, this is totally about stalking!"? This is what But Baby, I Love You! is about: the obsessiveness and craziness that goes along with people who are in love. (Especially when sometimes said love is not returned.) Everyone else sees that they're crazy, but alas. Sometimes it takes a really long time for them to realize it themselves. Pretty much I tried to arrange things from the process of "creepy observer from the sidelines" to the "up close and personal, WE HAVE TO BE TOGETHER ALWAYS" kind of obsessive relationships.

Track Listing:

01. Clay Aiken - Invisible - Great way to freak people out, Mr. American Idol Runner Up! You don't even really have to think about the lyrics to this one to get a bit weirded out by the thought of Clay Aiken being a fly on the wall. What kind of message is he trying to send to the teenieboppers anyway?! Creepyyy.

02. Dave Matthews Band - Crash - Dave Matthews is in ur windows, watchin' u strip and getting far too excited about it.

03. Jon Brion - Strings that Tie To You - Not so much about the act of stalking, this cute little song from the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack is about everything reminding you of a person, and nothing you do helps you to forget them.

04. Dido - Here With Me - This is when the obsession starts getting really bad. They can't sleep, they can't eat, they can't breathe without the person. <s>Either that or Roswell is about to start...</s>

05. REM - Losing My Religion - A slight bit out self-doubt for Stalker Person. They think that perhaps they are getting reciprocation of love back from the person they're obsessed with, but alas. While they're giving up everything for this person, the thought of getting it back is woefully just a dream.

06. Goo Goo Dolls - Iris - While Stalker Person doesn't want to reveal themselves to the world, but just to the Stalkee, so that together they can make beautiful mandolin music.

07. The Hollies -The Air that I Breathe - Kind of self explanatory. They already lost their religion. All they need is oxygen and their stalkee to continue living happily!

08. Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful - I will start off by saying this song FREAKS ME OUT, as it's kind of a less poppy version of Invisible. They love someone else, think that they'd be perfect together, and the someone else doesn't notice them. BUT THEN this one can kind of be construded as "oh hey, let me drug you and bring you home with me and YOU WILL LOVE ME DAMMIT." Among other things. So yes. The plot thickens, thanks to Mr. Aqualung.

09. Barenaked Ladies - Old Apartment - I've read the cd flap insert that explains the meaning behind this song, about how they're going back and visiting their old home and everything's changed. I've also read a fic where there were two people who lived together, one got kicked out, and the other continues to live there happily, making a few changes. LATER, the person who got kicked out breaks in and has a freak out meltdown. This is the interpretation I went with for the purposes of the mix.

10. Enrique Iglesias - Escape - Enrique says it best. "You can run, you can hide, but you can't escape my love." Down, big guy. You're scary. And your mole was cancerous.

11. Lionel Richie - Hello - Stalker person catches up with stalkee and says "hello!" Among other things.

12. Bjork - All is Full of Love - Stalker person continues to go on about just how wonderfully creepy and exclusive life will be with them and them only! But it's okay. They're only doing this out of love. I was also torn between this version and the Death Cab version for a bit, but went with this one as it is the original and definitely works the creepy vibe better.

13. The Police - Every Breath You Take - I don't think there is any creepier stalker song than this one.

14. Sarah McLachlan - Possession - Oh Sarah McLachlan. I think that this mix would be far emptier without her on it too. I'm starting to get lazy with descriptions. That's okay.

15. The Flamingos - I Only Have Eyes For You - This song had an entire Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode dedicated to the obsessiveness, complete with the amazing Chris Gorham playing an angry ghost who got to yell "Don't you walk away from me bitch!" Ah, young love.

16. Frou Frou - Shh I was torn between this one and Psychobabble by Frou Frou for quite a while, but I think this one fits this theme better. It's a little bit bouncier than the other, songwise.

17. The Beatles - Run For Your Life "I'd rather see you dead, little girl, than in the arms of another man." Uh...

18. Clannad - I Will Find You - This is actually the song that influenced this. I downloaded the The Last of the Mohicans soundtrack last night, and thought "huh, that's kind of creepy and obsessive."

19. Portishead - All Mine - No one does obsession quite like Portishead. "There's nowhere to hide from me, all mine, you have to be. Don't resist, we shall exist until the day I die." Kind of epitome of scary right there.

20. Air Supply - Can't Live (if Living is Without You) Pahahaha, The Rules of Attraction.

Download It Here!

Disclaimer - I in no way am encouraging you to let these songs influence you to go out and stalk someone. Stalking is bad.
